About these stories

Whales, sharks, sea turtles, walruses, seals and an octopus with nine brains. These are the true stories of the animals under the waves — the biggest animal that ever lived, the oldest hunters in the sea, a coral reef that is really an underwater city — told slowly enough to fall asleep to.

Two of them are adventures rather than portraits: Oliver's Eight Helping Arms, in which an octopus helps eight different creatures in one busy day, and Pete's Underwater World, in which a penguin who is afraid of the cold water finds out what is beneath the ice. Octopus Intelligence is the one for a child who likes a strange fact; the rest are for ages three to six.
