The story

High on the warm, grassy hills, a kind shepherd watched over his fluffy flock as the golden sun began to set.

He gently guided the sheep toward the cozy stone pen, tapping his wooden staff to keep them safe.

The shepherd counted his fluffy friends one by one as they entered. Ninety-eight, ninety-nine... but one spot was empty.

The shepherd searched the darkening meadow, calling out for his lost lamb, but only the wind answered.

Determined to find his lost lamb, the shepherd lit his glowing lantern and stepped into the dark, shadowed valley.

The steep, rocky path was cold and dark, but the shepherd searched behind giant boulders, shining his warm light.

Deep in the valley, the shepherd stopped and listened. Through the sound of a rushing stream, he heard a faint, familiar cry.

Following the sound, the shepherd spotted his little lamb shivering on a steep, slippery ledge just above the rushing stream.

With a gentle hand, the shepherd reached down the slippery ledge and scooped the shivering lamb into his warm arms.

Holding the safe, sleepy lamb close to his chest, the shepherd began the long climb back up the hill under the starry sky.

As they reached the top of the hill, the ninety-nine sheep cheered with happy bleats to see their friend safe at last.

Safe at last, the shepherd smiled as he tucked the little lamb in, knowing that every single one of his sheep was deeply loved.
