The story

Every morning, young David watched his sheep graze in the quiet valley. The sun shone warmly on the green hills.

By the bubbling stream, David searched for the smoothest, roundest stones to collect in his pouch.

He placed a pebble in his leather sling and swung it high. He smiled as it hit a distant tree trunk with a satisfying click.

Suddenly, a dark shadow fell over the peaceful hills as a wild wolf crept down from the rocky mountains.

The frightened sheep scattered in all directions. A tiny lamb stood frozen as the hungry wolf drew closer.

David's heart pounded, but he knew he had to be brave. He reached into his pouch and pulled out a smooth stone.

He placed the pebble into the leather pocket of his sling and took a deep breath, steadying his hands.

David whirled the sling overhead in steady, sure circles, just as he had practiced so many times before.

With a swift snap, he released the cord. The pebble zipped straight through the air, heading right for the wolf.

The stone struck a rock right in front of the wolf with a loud crack. Startled by the noise, the beast turned and fled into the hills.

With the wolf gone, the tiny lamb trotted back to David and gently nudged his hand. He knelt down to hug his safe little friend.

David smiled at his sling. His quiet daily practice had made him a brave protector, ready for any big adventure.
