Hummingbirds: Tiny Acrobats

High up in the sun-drenched garden, a tiny hummingbird named Pip wakes up. He shakes his shiny green feathers, ready to fly.

With a soft buzz, Pip’s wings blur into a tiny cloud. He hovers in mid-air, ready to search the garden for sweet treats.

A sweet scent drifts down from the top of the old stone wall. High above, the legendary Crimson Trumpet flower has bloomed!

Pip darts toward the tall stone wall. A strong breeze blows, but he beats his wings faster to stay on course.

To fight the wind, Pip does something amazing. He loops, dives, and even flies backwards with perfect balance!

Suddenly, a warm summer shower begins. Huge, heavy raindrops tumble down around him like giant water balloons.

Pip twists and turns, dodging the heavy drops with lightning speed. His fast wings keep him perfectly dry.

The storm passes quickly, and warm sunlight floods the garden. Just ahead, the Crimson Trumpet flower glows with sweet nectar.

Pip hovers right in front of the giant Crimson Trumpet. Its sweet, golden nectar is finally within his reach.

He dips his long bill deep into the bright blossom. Each sweet sip of nectar is a delicious reward for his brave journey.

With a full tummy and sparkling wings, Pip flies high above the garden. He is proud to be the swiftest acrobat of all.

Even the smallest creature can reach the highest heights. Pip rests on a twig, knowing his tiny wings can take him anywhere.
