Jane's First Friend

Young Jane loved exploring her lush green garden. With her notebook in hand, she dreamed of speaking with the animals.

One sunny afternoon, a plump reddish-brown hen wandered out of the coop. Jane watched closely, wondering how the little bird saw the world.

The hen pecked at the soft dirt, searching for tasty bugs. Every little movement was a mystery Jane wanted to solve.

To get closer, Jane sat as still as a statue in the grass. She didn't make a single sound.

Slowly, the cautious chicken took one brave step closer, tilting her head with curiosity.

Jane gently offered a handful of seeds. The little hen stepped closer, her soft feathers brushing against Jane's knee.

The little hen waddled back toward the dark, quiet coop, ready to rest. Jane followed closely, wondering what secrets lay inside.

Jane squeezed into the dusty, dark chicken coop and held her breath, trying not to make a single sound.

Inside the dim coop, the hen settled onto a cozy nest of golden straw. Jane watched in quiet wonder, barely daring to breathe.

With a soft, happy cluck, the hen stood up to reveal a warm, perfect egg resting in the straw.

The little hen trotted back out into the bright, sunny garden, her reddish-brown feathers shining. She had found a true friend.

Sitting in the warm grass, Jane smiled and wrote in her notebook. She knew she would spend her whole life listening to and loving animals.
